Parents Who Rock is a non-profit association of musicians and others based in Montclair, NJ, who volunteer their time and talents onstage and behind the scenes to raise money for non-for-profit organizations throughout the community. Since 2005, fundraising events featuring PWR artists and other volunteers, working with the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE), have netted more then $200,000 for such organizations and causes as the All-Children’s Playground, Mountainside Hospital Breast Cancer Education Center, the Montclair Rape Crisis Center, and more. Calling all singer/songwriters! The Modern Music Academy is presenting the Essex Singer Songwriter Competition. Singer/songwriters can enter to win the chance to record a 3-song EP with a two-time Grammy Award-winning producer, an opportunity valued at more than $6,000.

Additional prizes include giveaways from Modern Music Academy as well as other sponsors, including Just Jakes, Guitar Center and Whole Foods.

For more information on how to enter, visit the Modern Music Academy website. Application deadline is June 1st. The preliminaries will be held at Whole Foods on June 9th, and the finals will be held June 17th at Just Jakes.

The Modern Music Academy offers music lessons, and other services, from artist development to educational programs in audio production and video/film editing. The event will benefit local organization such as Parents Who Rock, Zimm's Fund, and the North Essex Chamber of Commerce.
